Question?
How many pages a week should I assign in my classes? Right now I am looking at around 60 pages a week in my 300 level class and 80 a week in my 400. The problem is that I have no idea what the standard is for 'world class universities' or even the average for a university in the US, Canada, or Europe. I would ideally like to assign as much reading as possible to my students.

I assign around 100 pages a week for a history course, and as much as 150 pages a week for a literature course. But I also balance it with weeks where there is little or no reading so the slackers can catch up.
We have short semesters. Really they are only about 12 classes long and when you include the first day and the mid-term that means only 10. So I can not really have any weeks with nothing. But, my aim is not for UG to compete with Occidental. My goal is to bring us into competition with the Ivies.
Why don't you look at some of the profs' pages at the Ivies and see if they post their syllabi? That might give you an idea of the reading load they assign.
I'd say I averaged around a 100 per class per week in undergrad.
